Nepal Kukur Canine Sangha is a purely non-profit organization operated with the involvement of Nepal’s first private sector. The main objective behind the establishment of this organization is to ensure that dogs, like other animals, are recognized in the constitution as four-legged living beings, and not classified under a “sophisticated” or elite class.
At today’s 3rd AGM, the President of the organization, Mr. Mukunda Baniya, highlighted that keeping dogs under the category of “sophisticated and luxury items” in Nepal’s laws has created serious obstacles, problems, and challenges for businesses that are paying taxes to the government. He mentioned that this classification has greatly affected activities such as high-breed dog breeding, shelters, boarding centers, dog food and accessories businesses, and veterinary medicines and treatment services.
The program was attended by Chandragiri Municipality Mayor Mr. Ghanashyam Giri, Deputy Mayor Ms. Basanti Shrestha, Special Advisor Mr. Suresh Shah, various pet food importers, veterinary doctors, pet shop owners, veterinary technicians, trainers, KCN representatives, media personnel, trainers, and dog lovers.

During the meeting, Mayor Ghanashyam Giri stated that the role of the private sector is also important in the management and control of community dogs, and he expressed his commitment to cooperate in upcoming programs.
Indreni Pet Zone has also become a lifetime member, committed to promoting canine culture, welfare, and community involvement.
The meeting concluded with the shared objective of bringing together dog owners, breeders, and canine enthusiasts across Nepal; supporting dog welfare initiatives and community-based events; and promoting awareness of canine breeds along with responsible dog ownership.
